Restoration of Kræsten Iversen’s murals

In 2024, the Danish Student House successfully completed the restoration of the murals by Danish artist Kræsten Iversen, thanks to the expertise of restorer Serge Tiers’ team and the generous support of the Danish foundations Gangstedfonden, Augustinus Fonden, and Ny Carlsbergfondet.

Created in the 1950s, these works depict the four seasons and celebrate the beauty of Danish landscapes and nature. They are accompanied by verses by the Danish poet Piet Hein, which further enhance their poetic and evocative quality.

Although the Danish Student house was inaugurated in 1932, its architect, Kaj Gottlob, had envisioned from the outset that this room would be adorned with murals. Kræsten Iversen’s works brought this vision to life several decades later, imbuing the House with a strong artistic presence deeply rooted in Danish culture.

Designed to offer Danish students visiting Paris a reminder of their homeland and its familiar landscapes, these paintings are now an essential part of the House’s heritage. Their restoration helps preserve this exceptional legacy and pass on to future generations the full artistic, historical, and cultural richness of the House.
